Renaissance artist Sando Boticelli used the young Leonardo as the model for the painting entitled The Martyrdom of St. Sebastian. CLICK HERE FOR LARGER IMAGE Salvator Mundi was painted by Leonardo and is possibly a self portrait (Some think it is the face of Leonardo's ward nicknamed Mon Salai) LARGE IMAGE SHOWING FACIAL FEATURES ARTIST'S RENDITION OF THE FACE ON THE SHROUD OF TURIN AS COMPARED TO LEONARDO'S SELF PORTRAIT AS JESUS Is it possible that the SHROUD OF TURIN is a HOAX? Did DaVinci use a special technique to embed his own likeness on the fabric? If anything, Leonardo can be most remembered for his Mona Lisa painting. However, focusing on just one of his creations would mean dismissing an enormous amount of spectacular inventions and paintings. Leonardo often experimented with new techniques and methods, which most likely lead to the destruction of some of his works. Despite this and his habit of procrastinating, Leonardo went on to "invent" the helicopter, tank, calculator, the theory of plate tectonics, solar power, and more. However, due the the limitations of the technology of his era, most of these were only conceptualized and were unable to be properly realized until hundreds of years after Leonardo's death. Curiosità. Curiosità is an "insatiably curious approach to life and unrelenting quest for continuous learning". Great minds have one characteristic in common: they continuously ask questions throughout their lives. Leonardo's endless quest for truth and beauty clearly demonstrates this. What makes great minds different is the quality of their questions. You can increase your ability to solve problems by increasing your ability to ask good questions. Like da Vinci, you should cultivate an open mind that allows you to broaden your universe and increase your ability to explore it.
Dimostrazione. Dimostrazione is "a commitment to test knowledge through experience, persistence, and a willingness to learn from mistake". Wisdom comes from experience and the principle of Dimostrazione helps you get the most out of your experience.
Sensazione. Sensazione is "the continual refinement of the senses, especially sight, as the means to enliven experience". According to da Vinci, we can best practice Dimostrazione through our senses, particularly sight. That's why one of Leonardo's mottoes is saper vedere (knowing how to see) upon which he built his work in arts and science.
Cryptic. Cryptic is "a willingness to embrace ambiguity, paradox, and uncertainty". An essential characteristic of da Vinci's genius is his ability to handle a sense of mystery.

Arte/scienza. Arte/scienza is "the development of the balance between science and art, logic and imagination". This is thinking with the “whole brain”. Mind mapping is a powerful method that can help you combine logic and imagination in your work and life. The end result of mapping should be a web-like structure of words and ideas that are somehow related in the writer's mind.
Corporalità. Corporalità is "the cultivation of grace, ambidexterity, fitness, and poise". Leonardo had amazing physical ability that complemented his genius in science and arts.
Connessione. Connessione is "a recognition of and appreciation for the interconnectedness of all things and phenomena". This, in other words, is systems thinking. One main source of Leonardo's creativity is his ability to form new patterns through connections and combinations of different elements.

WHAT IMAGES DO WE HAVE OF THIS POLYMATH?
We know Leonardo's face from many drawings, self portraits, and scuptors. His earliest likeness is one of the statue of David where Verocchio, his teacher, used his young apprentice to depict the biblical hero with the head of the slain giant Goliath (the face of the mentor) at his feet. It was common for artists to use students as well as their own self portraits to depict faces.

LEONARDO'S painting called THE MUSICIAN is said to be a SELF PORTRAIT In real life he could play ANY stringed instrument and had a beautiful voice! Leonardo didn't just study art; he studied all sorts of interesting things. He began his career as an apprentice to Verrocchio in a studio where a variety of creative activities were taking place. Paintings were created there, but so were musical instruments. Verrocchio himself was a musician. While serving as his apprentice, Leonardo may have learned to play a musical instrument and to sing. He may have also learned how to construct musical instruments.While serving in the courts of his patrons, the Medici family and the Sforza family, he would have been surrounded by music too. Music was a popular and growing art form at that time. More and more people were taking an interest in music since the invention of the printing press had made printed music widely available. Anyplace where people who were interested in the arts gathered, there was sure to be music. Songs and dance music were popular in court festivities.

Many believe that the center portrait is really the face of Leonardo.
It is said that it possibly is:
-a self portrait where he deliberately aged himself to use the image for a painting;
-actually a portrait of his grandfather.
It could not have been Leonardo because it shows the face of a very old man in his eighties and the master lived only until age 67.
Chances are he looked more like the third drawing on the right!

Who was the MODEL for the real MONA LISA? Could it have been the adopted son of DaVinci whom he nicknamed SALAI because he had been so mischievous as a child? The name means "limb of Satan" or the "unclean one". Can the name of MONA LISA be an anagram or MON SALAI? Did DaVinci play a trick on us and use a man as the model instead of the wife of a merchant? Could SALAI also have been the model for John the Apostle in the LAST SUPPER?
